Most shows give you multiple days and multiple halls to get it right. Zak World of Façades London gives you none of that. One stage, one day, a schedule running from eight in the morning to a gala dinner that night, and no second chance if the crew is out of position when a presentation starts. That was the brief for our first assignment in the UK.
01What Zak World of Façades Is
A global conference series devoted entirely to façade design and engineering — how buildings are wrapped, glazed and clad. The London edition we covered was the 200th worldwide and the 8th in London, held for a single day at Old Billingsgate. The series has drawn more than 70,000 delegates across dozens of countries; the London room brought together architects, façade engineers, developers, main contractors and materials suppliers alongside a tabletop product exhibition.
A niche audience by trade show standards, but a serious one. These are the people who specify and approve the building envelopes of major developments.
02Why This Needed a Producer, Not Just a Crew
We have built an international footprint one market at a time — Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Australia — and each city means learning a venue and a programme from scratch. A one-day format left no room for the usual settling-in period, so someone had to own the running order: every speaker slot mapped to a crew position, tabletop and portrait coverage scheduled into the gaps, the whole day held to a timetable with no second day behind it.

The format was unforgiving in the best way. A packed agenda kept the room engaged from first session to last, and the gala dinner and awards gave the coverage a natural arc: technical presentations in the morning, product conversations through the afternoon, a formal, portrait-friendly close in the evening. Producing it meant treating the day as three connected shoots, each with its own rhythm and priority list.
